Couples resolutions

The New Year is just around the corner. This is usually the time of year most people reflect on the lessons they learned over the 365 days and what they want to carry with them into the next 365. People start to plan how to improve themselves, to enrich the lives of those they love, and in some small way make the world a better place than it was before. Here are some ideas on resolutions, words to embrace, or even just little tips to strengthen your relationship and spread a little joy, peace, and good will over the next year. 


There have been multiple studies which have shown that not only does being reflectivevolunteering help the community in general, whether it is assisting the elderly, cleaning up parks, or helping in animal adoption, but it also leads to a deeper sense of peace and wellbeing in the volunteers themselves. Find something you are both passionate about and give your time, be it an urban gardening group or a mentoring program. Not only will you be giving back, but you will be building memories and creating a sense of peace in your relationship. 

Work on Those Little Annoyances: 

We all have them. That one little thing we do which drives our partner crazy. Maybe is never putting your socks in the dirty clothes bin or using a new cup every time you get a glass of water or want some tea. What better way to show the person you have chosen to spend the rest of your life with how much they mean than by actively working on that one thing you know drives them up the wall? After all, it is the little things in life which mean the most and less nagging means a more peaceful relationship, and who doesn’t want that?

Healthy Habits:

Working out. Eating better. Practicing mindfulness. These are regular resolutions for the new year which often get left behind as soon as February starts. However, if people have another person working toward these same goals, they are more likely to follow through with them. So, why not sit down and plan out healthier meals you can cook together 3 times a week or find some sort of physical activity you both enjoy. Even if all you do is take a 20-minute walk together every other day you get the chance to spend time creating healthy habits and spending time together. What could be better than that?
